Only four teams in Ireland. The barbarians is based in Co. Antrim and is run and organised by volunteers, friends, families and supporters. We have a glimpse of what it is like to be a part of the team, what it takes and what their goals are as a squad through an effort to raise awareness of the sport.

Behind the scenes of Barbarians

The interior of a community sports hall is less than ideal when it comes to filming locations. Our small crew of 3 with 3 days access to the Barbarians team and armed with Canon DSLRs, GoPros and a Sony FS7 took the challenge of gaining an insight into a sport that does not have the biggest of reputations. This tight nit group welcomed us in and allowed us access to see exactly what they are most proud of. Trying to get in the action poses issues no matter the shoot but setting up your equipment in amongst the bent metal of the Barbarians chairs was hardly a safe option. Using GoPros and slow motion footage we have tried to represent their sport and the people who play it.
